Enclavix -- February 24, 2005
This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
What is the difference between a small business owner and an entrepreneur? Nicole Davis believes a small business owner is one who plans on keeping a company small, while an entrepreneur envisions a business that develops and grows.
Clearly, Nicole's own career reflects her views of what an entrepreneur ought to be. She calls herself a "serial entrepreneur" because she works to build major high technology businesses here in Utah with her husband, Brad.
Nicole has a background in business and technology. She received her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University. She also has a master's in business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Nicole has more than a decade of international marketing, strategy and sales experience in the networking industry. At Megahertz, which was later acquired by U.S.Robotics and then 3Com Corporation, she held positions in marketing, and business and strategic development.
Brad has a similar background. He pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Utah in physics and computer science and has more than 21 years of experience in technical management and executive roles in various high technology companies.
Nicole and Brad's current entrepreneurial venture is Enclavix, based in Draper. It's a company that provides media server software for storing, organizing and enjoying digital media at home. Currently in the development stage, the software is being marketed to companies that produce servers to store digital media such as photos, movies and music.
Nicole says the greatest challenge for high technology entrepreneurs in Utah is finding local capital. So she works hard as a trustee for the Utah Information Technology Association to help improve the business environment in Utah for entrepreneurs such as herself and Brad.
For Zions Bank, this is Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
