This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Dennis Stong tells me the secret to success in the field of home health and hospice is having a big heart, a lot of compassion and surrounding yourself with people who share those same qualities. And as owner of Harmony Home Health & Hospice, Dennis speaks with authority.

After gaining experience as a medic in the U.S. Navy, Dennis went to work in the civilian world as a home health aid. Dennis's love of the health field, combined with an entrepreneurial drive he developed selling greeting cards as a child, led him to launch Harmony in 1996.

Dennis started the company in his basement, with one partner and one employee, his brother. The business plan was simple — offer great service to attract customers and create a great working environment to attract dedicated employees.

It worked. Within six months, Dennis's basement was filled with 20 compassionate employees, and the company grew into its first real office. Harmony has continued to grow, and today it has more than 340 employees, four offices in Utah, an office in Nevada and plans to open offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Harmony staff has been recognized by local and national media for going above and beyond its job requirements. The Today Show recognized them for going the extra mile to reunite a dying patient with his family.

The need for home health and hospice services is increasing at a significant pace with the aging of the baby boomer's generation. And the hospice industry is growing as people are learning about how it works. But the factors that have led to Harmony's success remain the same — great service and a great working environment to attract dedicated employees.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
